Polaris acts in :

Zero Hunger

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and
promote sustainable agriculture : Polaris encourages eco-responsible supply chains. By 2020, the share of our raw materials from sustainable fishing will represent 85% of our total sourcing. Our ambition is to increase this share from year to year with the objective of 100% sustainable responsible sourcing by 2025.

Good Health And Well-Being

Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages: The OMS recommends, for the majority of the populations on the surface of the globe, to increase their nutritional intake of Omega-3. Omega 3s are essential for our body. A deficiency can have many consequences on health: cardiovascular disorders, depression, vision problems. Such a balanced diet is a guarantee for the healthy development of infants, children and adults, as well as for the long-term maintenance of visual, cognitive and cardiac functions. Polaris participates in this promotion of well-being by offering its Omega-3 and Omega-6.

Gender Equality

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls: Polaris promotes gender equality at all levels of the organization structure. The company currently has approximately 50% women in its workforce.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation:As an expert in lipochemistry, Polaris is constantly looking for innovation. In 2011, the company was awarded the Pierre Potier Prize Trophy for its innovative, more environmentally friendly process, combining two techniques: enzymatic chemistry and molecular distillation.

Responsible consumption and production

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns: Today, Polaris is focusing its commercial development on the Vegan market by offering products based on microalgae. By promoting the use of these microalgae for the manufacture of Omega-3 oils, Polaris is reducing its footprint on marine resources.

Life below water

Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine
resources for sustainable development: In order to limit our impact on marine resources, we favour oils based on microalgae and other renewable resources naturally rich in Omega-3 (DHA and EPA) and Omega-6. This sourcing will in the long term make it possible to supply essential fatty acids to all, without resorting to marine resources and guaranteeing the long-term protection of the oceans.

Partnerships for the goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development: We consider our suppliers and customers as partners and ensure that our joint efforts contribute to local development around the world. Our raw materials are thus processed locally, leaving the added value in the country of origin and thus participating in the development of these countries.

Polaris applies the principles of sustainable development on a daily basis, not only by respecting local resources, but also by bringing real economic and social value to local communities.

Sedex

Polaris is also a member of Sedex. Sedex is a global organisation whose goal is responsible supply chain management.

Sedex’s SAQ evaluation qualifies its members’ sourcing programmes to allow the use of a common tool for comparison and sharing. A periodic evaluation is thus carried out to objectively assess its performance. This evaluation is based on the following codes and standards:

  1. The ETI Core Code: 2014 (Ethical Trading Initiative),
  2. SA8000: 2014 Social Accountability International (SAI),
  3. ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental management systems,
  4. OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. The evaluation for the year 2020 is in progress, but in 2019 Polaris had reached the very good score of 92/100.
